VOLUNTEERING

Belmont Public Schools provide many opportunities for parents, guardians, and community members to participate in the students’ school experience. We welcome and appreciate volunteers, who enrich the students’ learning experience and provide additional helping hands during the school day.

In order to keep the school environment safe and secure for our students, we require all adult volunteers – including those recruited and/or paid by school PTO/PTA organizations – to complete all of the following three requirements before participating in school or at events held on school premises:

  • CORI check
  • Confidentiality Statement
  • COVID-19 Vaccination

CORI CHECK

Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations require school districts to obtain a Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) arrest record check on all employees and volunteers prior to hire, or every three years during someone's term of service.

Volunteers must submit a CORI Acknowledgement Form in person at any of the school main offices, at least one week prior to your first volunteer date. You can download and complete the form at home; forms are also available in all school offices. You must present the completed form and your government issued photo ID (e.g., drivers’ license or passport) to a member of our administrative staff, who will complete the bottom section of page 2.

Completed CORI forms are sent to the central administration office, where the check is run on the state system. Forms are retained under lock and key, and destroyed after three years.

Once your CORI check is completed, all Belmont schools will be able to confirm that you are in good standing with respect to this requirement when you check in at any school main office. Your CORI check is good for three years, after which you will need to submit a new form.

CONFIDENTIALITY STATEMENT

We appreciate your interest and effort in helping us continue to provide the most supportive environment possible in which to have students learn. In order to provide such an environment, we remind volunteers of the importance of confidentiality when working with the school. This is especially important when the people involved reside in the community.

We ask that all school volunteers read, sign and return a copy of the Belmont Public Schools Statement of Confidentiality, affirming that you agree to abide by the protocols it describes. You can download and complete the form at home; forms are also available in all school offices. You may return your signed and dated form to any of the school offices, or you may scan and email it to Human Resources (rleeb@belmont.k12.ma.us) in advance of your first volunteer date.

Once your form is received, all Belmont schools will be able to confirm that you are in good standing with respect to this requirement when you check in at any school main office.

COVID-19 VACCINATION

Belmont Public Schools are currently implementing vaccine mandates for all educators and staff. We are continuing to prioritize ensuring high vaccination rates amongst all adults who work in our schools. The Belmont Public Schools encourages all families, students, staff, and school community members who are eligible to get vaccinated.

As presented at the Belmont School Committee meeting on September 21, 2021, anyone – including parents and family members who wish to volunteer in our school buildings during the 2021-2022 school year – will need to show proof of vaccination.

Volunteers can provide a photocopy (or email a photo) of their vaccination card to the school administrative assistant when checking in at the school’s main office for the first time this year. Alternatively, individuals who plan to volunteer in any of the district schools can email a PDF or photo of their vaccination card directly to Human Resources (rleeb@belmont.k12.ma.us) in advance of their first volunteer date.

All vaccination card copies will be kept securely under lock and key, and individual vaccination status will be handled confidentially by the school and central administration staff.

Once your form is received, all Belmont schools will be able to confirm that you are in good standing with respect to this requirement when you check in at any school main office.

The district’s full volunteer vaccination protocol may be found here: COVID-19 Vaccination Protocol – Volunteers.
