Belmont Public Schools System serves approximately 3,500 students in grades K-12, and includes about 300 teachers. Our school system has seven academic departments and ten support departments. This section describes our elementary schools' academics and support services.

Health and Nursing Services

Belmont Public Schools employ full-time registered nurses in all elementary schools. Health services provided within the Comprehensive School Health Program include:

• Monitoring compliance with state immunization guidelines
• Identification and prevention of the spread of disease
• Administration of medication
• Annual vision and hearing screening
• Case management services, i.e., implementation of individual health care plans for students with health concerns
• First aid assessment and treatment
• Injury and Illness assessment and treatment
• Referral / counseling / guidance
• Promotion of healthy life-style choices

Food Services

The Department of Food Service is responsible for providing nutritious meals for students that partake in the lunch offerings. 

All schools have kitchens which allow meals to be prepared on site. The school lunch program offers milk, vegetables (fresh or frozen) and fresh fruit daily.  We do not offer any caffeinated or carbonated beverages.  Entrée items are baked. We do offer various baked potato items such as tater tots or oven fries.  We do not fry. Soda and candy are not part of the school lunch program and we serve skim and reduced fat milk, control portion sizes, and restrict sodium and high caloric foods.

Elementary menus offer the meal of the day, and alternatives that include chicken nuggets, yogurt cup tray, PB&J plus the sandwich rotation. The majority of students opt for the meal of the day.

Technology Department

Technology in the Belmont Public Schools is an important part of teaching and learning. In our elementary schools, teachers are supported by an experienced technology staff, a robust network, e-mail and web access, along with SMARTBoard technology for dynamic classroom instruction. Further, we provide educational software through the curriculum departments to advance each child’s progress. Each school is equipped with a computer lab or other instructional area for whole class instruction. The goal of the district’s technology program is to provide meaningful educational experiences for students and staff; both inside and outside the classroom.

The technology department holds regular staff development workshops throughout the year including the use of SMARTBoards, scanners, e-mail, lab usage, remote access, research tools and LCD projectors. The purpose of these workshops is for teachers to gain the skills and tools necessary to use technology effectively in their classroom. This regular collaboration is key to ensuring technology is a powerful part of each school’s growth. This department strives also to ensure there is an equitable technology experience regardless of school attended or grade level.
