| No Child Left Behind Act
Report Cards:
The federal legislation, No Child Left Behind (NCLB), requires all states, school districts, and schools to report student assessment results, drop-out rates, and teacher qualifications to the community on an annual basis. Belmont’s Report Card results, for the district and each of the schools, are available to you here. Please click on the links above to access them.
The NCLB Report Cards display data about student enrollment, teacher quality, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), achievement on the MCAS, and Student Growth Percentiles (SGPs) from the previous school year. SGPs are calculated for all students in grades 4-8 and 10 for their ELA and Mathematics scores. The SGP compares the student’s MCAS score with the scores of all students in the state on the same subject and in the same grade level who received similar scores in prior years. SGPs range from 1-99, with 50 being the average. An SGP above 50 represents higher than average growth; below 50, lower than average growth. More information about Student Growth Percentiles can be found at this link: www.doe.mass.edu/mcas/growth/
The SGPs on the report cards are for schools and the district, which represent the growth of the median student in the school or district. The SGP data provide valuable information to the educators in Belmont as we work to ensure all students achieve proficiency on these assessments.
There is also data from Massachusetts’ National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) from the most recent administration of NAEP for which the state has complete results. The NAEP is administered to a sample of students across Massachusetts and serves as a measure of the performance of the entire state compared to the rest of the nation.
We hope that you find the Report Card helpful in providing you with indicators of the performance of our schools. Thank you for your continued support of the Belmont Public Schools.
School report cards are available in all school offices and on the Belmont Public Schools website. In addition a complete district report card is available for our school system and may be found at the Superintendent's Office or on the school system's website.
