BMHS Entry and Dismissal Procedures

The BHS and BMS leadership has been hard at work outlining the procedures for entry and dismissal for the BMHS campus for 2023-2024. Those procedures are described below. Please note that a map along with any updates will be sent out in August. Our aim is to provide clarity around what families can expect at the start of the school year.

As this is the first year that both BHS and BMS are in operation on the new campus, these procedures are intended as an organized system of entry and dismissal that operates as smoothly as possible for students, staff, and families. We will continue to review and evaluate these procedures as we put them into action and will make adjustments along the way as needed. We appreciate your patience as we implement these procedures for the first time this fall.

It is expected that all students adhere to their specific school expectations, as well as those that are shared across the two schools and campus. School leadership will review all expectations with students as the school year begins as well as throughout the school year when needed.

Students Being Dropped Off

  • Middle School: Caretakers may enter the loop in front of the middle school entrance and drop their middle school student(s) off. Caretakers should exit promptly and may exit the campus by taking a right OR left. Please be mindful of oncoming traffic.

  • High School: Caretakers may enter the loop in front of the high school entrance and drop their high school student(s) off. Caretakers should exit promptly and may exit the campus by taking a right OR left. Please be mindful of oncoming traffic.

  • Caretakers who have children in both middle and high school drop their children off at their respective school entrances. While on the same campus, we want to ensure that students have entries that are aligned with their age group and needs.

  • Middle School students should walk and enter on the Middle School side. Those riding bikes should park and lock their bikes on the racks near the Middle School entrance.

  • High School students should walk and enter on the High School side. Those riding bikes should park and lock their bikes on the racks near the High School entrance.

Students Being Picked Up By Caretakers

  • Caretakers may NOT enter, idle or park in the loop in front of either school in the afternoon. The loop is reserved for buses only for afternoon transportation.

  • Middle School: Caretakers may wait for dismissal and pick up in the parking roadway as you enter from Hittinger Street or Concord Avenue (see map). DO NOT enter, idle, or park on the high school side of the building.

  • High School: Caretakers may wait for dismissal and pick up in the parking roadway on the high school side along the back of the building. Caretakers may enter from Hittinger Street or Concord Avenue and must proceed to the high school pick up area (see map). DO NOT enter, idle, or park on the middle school side of the building.

  • Please plan a designated spot with your child that is NOT in the bus loop at either school.

Friendly Suggestion to Avoid Traffic Delays and Congestion

With the construction of both the rink and the library, as well as the total number of students attending all (over 2,000 students), we anticipate that there will be considerable congestion around the campus in the mornings and afternoons.

  • Urge your student(s) to walk or bike to school.
  • If you drop students off close to the campus, please have students use crosswalks and bike lanes. Once students get onto campus, utilize sidewalks and pathways. There are spaces to lock bikes on campus.
  • Please be aware that on Monday, July 10, 2023, the Belmont Select Board voted unanimously to change the direction of one-way traffic on Underwood Street. Entry and dismissal procedures are developed with this change in direction.
