Belmont Middle and High Schools offer an enriched and rigorous curriculum for STEM, humanities, and arts, along with a range of extracurricular activities and clubs. To support this high level of learning, the building was created to be flexible, so that spaces can be adjusted as the educational program evolves over time enabling students to learn in a variety of settings, whether that be large interactive groups, small groups and teams, or individual learning spaces.
According to Bill Lavallo, Chair of the BMHS Building Committee, “The BMHS Building Committee is proud to have created a campus, supported by the School Administration, that allows Belmont High School students to explore and learn with independence and fewer boundaries, similar to the experience they will have when they attend college. Experiencing the beginning of this transition while in High School will help to ensure our students grow, learn, and succeed.”
Led by Bill Lavallo, Pat Brusch, and John Phelan, the Belmont Middle and High School building project was the result of the work of Skanska, Perkins + Will, CHA, members of the BMHS Building Committee, along with BPS administrative and custodial staff, all of whom were instrumental in overseeing this multi-year project through to completion. A key partner of the project is the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) , who accepted Belmont into their program and contributed substantially to the design and construction of the new Belmont Middle and High School. This campus is a reflection of the commitment to education by the entire Belmont community, which recognizes the importance of providing a school environment that enables all students and educators to succeed.
"The opening of both Belmont High School and Middle School Buildings is very exciting. Throughout the lifetime of this building project, it has been clear to the Belmont School Committee that the Belmont community has been at the heart of it. Collaborating with town and school leadership, educators, students, architects, industry experts, our community has been active in shaping the future of education for Belmont students. On behalf of the Belmont School Committee, I want to thank the Belmont community for these new buildings and for their support and commitment to the education of all students in Belmont, " said Belmont School Committee Chair, Meghan Moriarty.
This fall, members of the Belmont community will have an opportunity to experience the new learning spaces and tour the new BMHS Campus.
