COVID TEST UPDATE February 2022

COVID TEST UPDATE February 2022

Dear BPS Families,

Thank you to all who have opted-in to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Department of Public Health (DPH) updated COVID-19 Testing Program. The at-home testing program will increase testing of our participating students and staff, regardless of vaccination status. For more information about this update to the statewide testing program, please click here.

This week, schools distributed test kits for staff and students to be used during the week of February 21 (ideally, Sunday, February 27) and one test during the week of February 28. Please check those backpacks!

Here are some of the recommended uses for the at home test kits:

  • Recommended use for return from February break
    • Sunday, February 27 or Monday morning, February 28, and one test during the week of February 28.
  • Other recommendations for at-home antigen tests are when an individual is:
    • Experiencing symptoms (test before returning to school)
    • Deemed to be a close contact (test on day 5 or later)

Self-Test At Home Results In 15 MinsIn addition, these tests can be used for surveillance. While antigen tests are not typically used for surveillance, DESE recommends testing three (3) days after your school based routine COVID safety checks (pooled testing) are administered. For example, if you pooled tested at school on Monday, you could conduct an at-home antigen test on Thursday

Individuals who have tested positive within the last 90 days may use these tests if symptomatic

  • Reporting Positive Test Results: If an at home test result is positive, it must be reported to the school nurse using the appropriate school absence form.  Refer to the symptom checker page HERE. Inform your healthcare professional of the positive result.
  • During the week of February 28, schools will receive and distribute tests for staff and students to be used during the weeks of March 7 and March 14.

REMINDER

Pooled Testing will resume on Monday February 28, 2022

  • The Belmont Public Schools Nursing Department has condensed the pool testing schedule from a five day rotation to a three day (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) rotation.
    • MONDAYS – BUTLER AND WELLINGTON
    • TUESDAYS – WINN BROOK AND BURBANK
    • WEDNESDAYS – CHENERY AND HIGH SCHOOL

Please refer to the FAQ page for further information

Thank you,

BPS Nurses
