Dear Belmont Public Schools Community, We hope you are enjoying the final days of summer vacation and we look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to school. There have been some exciting changes that have taken place within the nursing department some are a result of the Middle School opening!

As the holiday season approaches so does the concern of flu and other respiratory illnesses. This flu season we are facing continued concerns of rising COVID infections as well as a rise in RSV infections (respiratory syncytial virus).

BPS nurses continue to monitor absences daily and require you to fill out the absence form anytime your child is absent from school due to a failed symptom check. You must also call your child’s school to report their absence. This form does not replace the need to inform administration of an absence.

As many families will be traveling and attending gatherings during the April break, we are also experiencing an increase in COVID cases. Your school nurses would like to take some steps to ensure a healthy transition back to school.

With cold, flu, allergy season, and continuing COVID cases among vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals, daily symptom checking remains one of our most important mitigation strategies. If your student is sick, keep them home until fever free and symptoms have improved to reduce the spread of all illnesses.

COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic for students 12 and older and Pfizer Booster for staff Reminder . We are happy to remind you that we are working with VaxinateRx and Healthcare Family Pharmacy to offer the 2nd COVID-19 vaccination clinic. VacinateRx will offer 2 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination series to our students' ages 12 and up

BPS Test and Stay information. Great news from BPS nursing, Test and Stay was successful with a pilot at one of our elementary schools and will be available throughout the district beginning October 13, 2021.

Symptom checker and mitigations. As we prepare for the return to school, we will continue to highlight some Health and Safety guidelines and practices that will be implemented at the start of school. Supporting the safety of our students, teachers, staff, and community is our most important mutual priority. We will continue to work in collaboration to update and refine our guidance for schools as science evolves.

COVID test information and consent. Thank you for your continued support as we kick off the 2021-2022 school year. At Belmont Public Schools, keeping your students safe and in school is our top priority. We have learned a great deal over this past year and our current guidance and procedures reflect the most updated recommendations from the CDC and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
