I write to inform you about new cases of confirmed COVID-19 in our school community.  We received confirmation from the Belmont Department of Health yesterday, 1/20/2021, regarding these cases. This is what we know for certain at this time: The Department of Health received confirmation of a laboratory testing report indicating that eight school community members (i.e., student or staff) -- at the Mary Lee Burbank Elementary School (4), Daniel Butler Elementary School (1), W.L. Chenery Middle School (1) and Belmont High School (2) -- have been diagnosed with positive cases of COVID-19.

On Tuesday night, there was a violent incident in Belmont that included racial epithets which resulted in the death of one of our Belmont Public School parents. After learning of this tragic event on Wednesday, the Wellington School administration reached out to support the family, staff, and students.

The Warrant Committee invites you to a briefing, "A Fork in the Road: Making Decisions on Belmont's Financial Future", on Monday, January 25th at 7:30pm. Tune in to Belmont Media or join the forum via Zoom. This third forum in the Warrant Committee series will focus on the Financial Task Force II model and the FTF recommendation to the Select Board to address the projected budget deficits with a combination of (1) the use of reserves and (2) a 3-year operating override that would be on the ballot for the April 6, 2021 Town election.

As you know, last Friday Governor Baker announced pool testing will be available for all schools and districts in the state by February. Director of BPS Nursing Beth Rumley and I attended the state-provided webinar today regarding this initiative.
