We have completed our first week of Phase 2 Remote Learning. We again want to thank all our administrators, directors, educators and staff for their thoughtful planning and tireless follow-through.

I also want to thank Assistant Superintendent Janice Darias, Director of Finance and Operations Tony DiCologero, CMS Principal/Director of Human Capital Mike McAllister, and Interim Director of Human Resources Judy Malone Neville for their stewardship and support during this process.

There are holidays this week, Passover and Easter Sunday, that will not be observed in the usual way families do. I hope everyone finds a way to be together in their physical distancing. It looks like great weather this weekend to enjoy the outdoors – safely.

We are in "day two" of Phase 2 remote learning as outlined in our Remote Learning Roadmap. My deepest appreciation and thanks to our educators for the planning and creativity displayed as they pivot to this remote learning environment. I also want to thank our staff, directors, administrators, special education and ELL providers for their support and facilitation of this work. Our technology department has been outstanding in helping us all move successfully into this new frontier.

I appreciate the patience of our school community as we move toward this new learning environment in a thoughtful manner.

Superintendent's April 3, 2020 Newsletter

My hope is that everyone reading this communication is healthy and stays healthy during this difficult time. The COVID-19 epidemic has produced such a startling upheaval to our everyday lives, and our hope is to provide some balance and support for each other as we move through this pandemic.

I would like to thank our families and students for their support and patience over the last few weeks. Our educators have been working hard to provide enrichment and support, and are now working harder as they scale up to our Phase 2 Remote Learning plan. My deepest appreciation for our educators, directors, principals, and all of our staff for their professionalism and creativity as they move forward with this new learning model for our students.

Superintendent's February 2020 Newsletter

It is hard to believe we are more than halfway done with the school year. Elementary schools celebrated 100 days of school on February 10 with activities marking the occasion.

February is also when we have a week of winter recess. We want to remind you at this time schools are not in session February 17-21. At this time, we also want to remind you schools are not in session on March 3 due to the presidential primary.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is on Monday, January 20. School is not in session; however, Belmont's 26th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast is held that day in the Belmont High School cafeteria. Guest Speaker is Ragini Shah, Clinical Professor of Law at Suffolk Law School and founder of Suffolk's Immigration Clinic. This annual event sponsored by Belmont Human Rights Commission is always an uplifting and welcome gathering of the community. Please see the BPS website for more information.
