As you know, this afternoon Governor Baker announced school buildings will be closed for the remainder of the school year in Massachusetts, and remote learning will continue for the remainder of the academic calendar. In his press conference today, the Governor stated that we are still very much in the grips of a pandemic in Massachusetts, and cannot ensure the safety of students and staff if schools were to reopen.

As you know, the School Committee voted unanimously at their April 14 meeting to continue remote learning instead of pausing for the April break. I also want to thank Assistant Superintendent Janice Darias, Director of Finance and Operations Tony DiCologero, CMS Principal/Director of Human Capital Mike McAllister, and Interim Director of Human Resources Judy Malone Neville for their stewardship and support during this process.

There are holidays this week, Passover and Easter Sunday, that will not be observed in the usual way families do. I hope everyone finds a way to be together in their physical distancing. It looks like great weather this weekend to enjoy the outdoors – safely.

We are in "day two" of Phase 2 remote learning as outlined in our Remote Learning Roadmap. My deepest appreciation and thanks to our educators for the planning and creativity displayed as they pivot to this remote learning environment. I also want to thank our staff, directors, administrators, special education and ELL providers for their support and facilitation of this work. Our technology department has been outstanding in helping us all move successfully into this new frontier.

I appreciate the patience of our school community as we move toward this new learning environment in a thoughtful manner.
