Dear Burbank Students and Families,
This is Ms. Williams, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as your new Burbank School Principal! My primary goal as principal is to continue to create a positive, fun and caring school environment for you to do your best learning. It will be wonderful to learn about and continue favorite Burbank School traditions and learning experiences, and to create new joyful memories together. I can’t wait to meet you and hear about new ideas you may have for this coming year. My favorite part of being your principal will be getting to know all of you! As a start, I will share a few fun facts about me.
I grew up in Stow, MA, a small town about 30-45 minutes west of Belmont and Boston. Have you ever been apple picking there? When we meet, you will see if I still resemble my first and third grade school pictures!
After attending college, my first experience as a public school educator was as a classroom teacher in Lexington, MA. Did you know that I have taught all of the elementary grades, kindergarten through fifth grade? I taught for 28 years, and learned how special and important every grade is, especially K-3! It will be so fun for me to visit your classrooms regularly and join in on some of your learning activities (and I hope that you will teach me about what you are learning). I was also an Assistant Principal for five years before becoming your principal, first in Lexington and then in Sudbury. One thing you should know is that it is very important to me that my students (along with staff and families) all have a say in what happens at school, and that they are important helpers in the school community. Together we can do great things!
My two children, Katie (25) and Kevin (23), and I live in Sudbury with our dogs, Caspian and Angel, and our cat, Tigger. We even have a guinea pig named Cookie! Katie is a nurse at Children’s Hospital in Boston and helps people when they are sick; Kevin is an auto mechanic and helps people when their cars need to be fixed. I am very proud of them! As you can see, we all enjoy helping people.
Living in Massachusetts for my whole life has allowed me to get to know and love both Boston and Belmont, the city and town which are so important to our Burbank School community. Favorite places I like to visit are: The Mass Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary, Rancatore’s Ice Cream, Franklin Park, the METCO Headquarters in Nubian Square, and the Boston Marathon Finish Line on Boylston Street (which I have crossed a few times!). What are your favorite places to visit?
I am very eager to meet you! If you are able, please come to a Principal Meet and Greet at Burbank on August 16 from 9:00-11:00. Weather permitting, we will be on the playground; otherwise, we will meet in the cafeteria. If you are unable to attend, the PTA and I will host other opportunities for us to meet at the start of the school year. If you have any questions at all, please reach out, as I will be at Burbank throughout the summer preparing for the school year (except when on vacation from July 30th-August 9th).
We are going to have a wonderful year ahead, learning with and from each other. Enjoy the rest of your summer playing, reading, relaxing, creating and exploring. I can’t wait to begin our new journey together!
Sincerely
Your Principal,
Ms. Williams
