Our wonderfully energetic 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Ackerman, has been awarded this year's FBE Outstanding Teacher Award! Beyond the excitement she brings to her classroom, you might spot her on the blacktop cheering during Walk to School Days or jogging around the block with the extracurricular Fun on the Run. A reception will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 1st at the Chenery Auditorium to honor Ms. Ackerman and the other teachers who received this award across our district. All are welcome to attend.
This morning, Winn Brook was buzzing with excitement as families gathered for the Kindergarten and 1st Grade Inclusion Assembly! This special event is part of the school’s ongoing journey, building on past assemblies that explored identity and diversity. Today, our students continued that journey through engaging songs that reminded us all of the importance of making everyone feel seen, heard, and included—every single day. The students’ heartfelt performances and messages of belonging and kindness made everyone feel welcomed and a valued part of the Winn Brook community. We were also excited to welcome Darnell Williams, our district’s new Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Well-being. He introduced himself to the community and shared his enthusiasm for connecting with families. Winn Brook continues to foster a culture where everyone belongs! Today, Winn Brook students were treated to an unforgettable experience where music and storytelling came together! Race and Song: A Musical Conversation—co-created by longtime friends Alastair Moock and Reggie Harris—brought history to life through moving songs and real-life experiences. With a mix of traditional and original music, Alastair and Reggie shared personal conversations about race and history, showing how the past shapes the world we live in today. Students didn’t just listen—they sang along and even learned to sign one of the songs! Their powerful performance reminded us all of the importance of listening to one another, fostering community, and working together for a brighter future. Today is International Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day (iWalk)! It was a beautiful morning for parents and students to walk or roll their way to school! At Winn Brook, PTA volunteers greeted families with smiles, stamps, and stickers on their arrival. It was a wonderful opportunity for families to connect while emphasizing the importance of active and safe transportation to school. Held annually in October, iWalk involves communities from more than 40 countries. Let's continue to Walk & Roll!

Tuesday, October 1st, the Belmont Police Department received a report from the Veterans Hotline about a caller claiming to be in a bathroom with a firearm at Winn Brook School. Police officers responded immediately, and the Principal initiated a shelter-in-place protocol. All students and staff are safe, and there is no credible threat of a firearm at the Winn Brook school.
The Police Department did a full search and determined that no one with a firearm was in the building. The incident was identified as a "swatting" call—a false report intended to provoke a heavy police response - which has also occurred in other communities.
The safety of our staff and students remains our top priority, and we continue to rely on our established safety protocols in situations like this. There is no threat at the school, and all activities have returned to normal.
