The Wellington Library is located on the second floor of our building, in the heart of the school. The Library is equipped with a collection of more than 10,000 books. All classes visit the Library once a week for 30 minutes.

All students will start with checking out one book each weekly, as we train new volunteers and students return books responsibly. In a few weeks, third grade will transition to checking out two books each. Although children are given the opportunity to check out weekly, books get forgotten. In most cases, we will be flexible so they can still check out at least one book. However, students repeatedly forgetting books may lose the privilege of taking books home.

Teachers and school staff can borrow an unlimited number of library materials at any time and keep them as long as is needed.

The library collects all books at the end of each academic year to check conditions and take inventory.

Lost Books

Students are responsible for returning all of the books that they check out. Regardless of where students misplace a book, they are responsible for replacing it or reimbursing the library for the cost of the book. A book’s value can be found on the Overdue Notice. Cash is preferred and we do have some discretionary budget, if circumstances warrant it.

Parent/guardian volunteers are essential to the success of Wellington's library program. The program could not thrive as it does without the commitment and support of its volunteers. Parents/guardians can sign up to volunteer in the library at the beginning of each school year. All volunteers must complete a CORI background check, sign a confidentiality agreement, and attend an orientation/shadowing session before volunteering in the library. Volunteers are responsible for the following:

• Checking-in books being returned

• Renewing books

• Checking out books being borrowed

• Running and printing overdue notices

• Shelving all books returned
